stepping stone

I've been wanting to make stepping stones FOREVER! I bought a kit at Michaels which comes with cement mix, mosaic pieces, and the stone template. I made this one for out front garden. I am in the process of making a whole bunch of them with Mike's, Coco's and my name on them for a path in out new and improved garden in the back of our house. I'll be sure to post the pics when they are all done!!

rochester's flower show

Back in the beginning of March I went to the Rochester Flower Show. There was so many beautiful displays, tons of spring flowers everywhere.

These tulips looked like a type of rose!

I was hanging outside and took some pictures of the blooms blooming in our gardens. Forsythia, daffodils, and many others. I love this time of year to see everything turning green and hear the birds chirping right when I wake up in the morning.

Since I have taken these pics last Friday, my many forsythia bushes have turned into bright yellow blobs. They are so gorgeous, I wish they bloom all year round.

It's been so nice here in upstate NY and Coco and I are lovin every minute of it. Playing outside, and going for lots of walks. Doesn't she look so happy in that pic??

While in the Caribbean we notice a lot of shops with "Coco" in it. Here's some examples of some of the stores; it made us miss her even more!

Her new nickname is "Cocolito".

I have returned!! I know it's been awhile. It's has been so nice here and I have been working on a lot of different projects! Here's one since we've been back for Va-ca.

I collected sand from the beaches we visited. Barbados, Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, and San Juan. I got these cute bottles from Michaels, filled them up, added the cork, and wrapped twine around the stem of the bottle. I made these tags by dying them with food coloring and water. I let them sit in the dye for about 8 hours, and let dry over a crumpled paper towel to make them a little inperfect looking. Wrote the name of the beach on each and tied it on.

These are going to look great in my sunroom, which has a beachy look!

On day 7 of our journey to the Caribbean, our cruise ship docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We decided to stay an extra day so we could see the sights of Old San Juan.

We stayed at Hilton Caribe which was an AMAZING hotel, and where the receipe for the Pina Collata was made. Have to say it was the BEST one I've ever had! I would love to go to go again, there was so much to see in San Juan!

Our last stop on the cruise was St. Maarten. We visited the Dutch side of the island. We enjoyed the day at the beach and walking around town going shopping in the little shops.

On the 5th day of our cruise we visited St. Kitts. This has to be one of my favorite Caribbean Islands. It was so beautiful and there was so much to see and learn. The picture above is where the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet. It was an incredible view.

On the fourth day we visited Antigua. I was really excited to visit this island because of its 365 beaches. The one we went to was beautiful, how could it not be with its turquoise waters and white sandy beaches? It was a great day to relax and enjoy the surroundings!

On our 3rd day we visited Barbados. We took a taxi to one of their beautiful beaches, and spent the day getting some sun and swimming.

On the second day of our cruise we visited Dominica. The island is known for being the Nature Isle of the Caribbean due to its seemingly unspoiled natural beauty and for their beautiful waterfalls. We went to Jaco falls, named for a slave that hid there back in the 1700's.

Parts of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3 were filmed on the island.

Last week Mike and I took a much needed vacation to the Southern Caribbean. We cruised on a Carnival ship for 7 days seeing paradise.

The last installment of Bouquet Friday I bring you my bouquet from my wedding. I love pink, and I used all different shades of pinks through out the wedding. Mine included peonies, roses, calla lilies, and hydrangeas. Stems wrapped in ivory satin ribbon, then wrapped with ivory flowers with crystals.

These were the bridesmaids bouquets. Done in pinks and white, roses, hyacinths, and gerbra daisies. Stems wrapped in sage green ribbon.

When I was younger, my Mom would go to different antique stores and flea markets, and I would tag along with her. Since we would go shopping a lot I started to see over and over again these old compacts. I thought it would make going to the antique stores a little more exciting to start collecting something. So I started buying and collecting compacts. It's amazing how many there are out there. There is even books about collecting compacts.

Here is some from my collection.

One of my favorite is one by Richard Hudnut, where you open it and the mirror pops open. Love it!

It makes you think of where they came from and who they belonged to.

Over the weekend my Mom had a family get together that included a YUMMY dinner; I offered to make a dessert- Strawberry cake! My Mother in law made it for my Sister in law's birthday and it was a hit with everyone, so I thought I would share it with you all:

Something blue. This is perfect for a bride that needs her "something blue". Gathered blue hydrangeas, poppies, green peonies, snowballs, and other blue fillers. I wrapped the stems with light green ribon and added a little sparkle with swarovski crystals.

In going with the Bouquet Friday theme, I'm bring you an idea for the flower girl in your wedding.

I took a basket and faux rose petals and glued them on with hot glue in rows over lapping each other. I also added glitter here and there on some petals. Add a matching bow, and there you have a unique flower girl basket.

I just got finished with this project on Friday. It was fast, easy and kinda fun to make! I have been racking my brain to make something that would go over our bed. So I decided to make these canvas lighted pieces of art.

I used 2 of the same sized canvas, painted it, and then on the wrong side of the canvas, I used a pencil to map out where the lights where going to go. I used a knitting needle (could use a nail or many other things) to punch out the holes. And inserted the lights (used a strand of Christmas lights).

I really liked how these turned out. They are so pretty looking when it's dark in the room.

Now I am going to make cord covers for the part of the cord you can still see.

(note: I wouldn't leave these plugged in for long, since they sit on the canvas closely)

Here's another guy I made at work. A cute little arrangement with 5 different kinds of silk herbs. This would look cute on a kitchen counter or amongst your plants. They are resting in a terracotta saucer with moss in between them.

I made this birdcage arrangement by just adding a few flowers and a nest to it. I wanted to keep it kind of natural looking and not going overboard with flowers. I think the end result is just that.

I know what your thinking...that bird laid those huge eggs?? :)

I did this fast and easy update to these two small dishes I had up on my wall. I bought a roll of pink and brown polka dot ribbon from Michaels, which was only $1. Tied a strip to the plate hanger and hot glued a bow I made to the top. I think it makes it a lot more interesting looking than the plain white dishes before.

Remember back in June, when I got this lady at a sale for only $3?! Well I finally did something with it. While rearranging a bit I decided to bring her downstairs and decorate her. I added some of my favorite garden shots of mine, and also added some diamond pins I collected awhile ago. It looks so cute in the corner of the dining room.

I think next time I'll put some black and white pics on it for a more antique look!

Here is bouquet number 3 I made. This one I would say is another classic...classic RED roses. I took a bunch of them and wrapped them up in red satin ribbon. I did add some sparkly details: on each rose head I added a swarovski crystals to add some shine. I also added a row of them on the wrapped stems. Perfect for the classic but modern bride!

I made this cutie the other day. I used a cloche and a glass plate, then filled it with smaller flowers, rocks, reinder moss, little birds and eggs. The end result: a little enclosed garden. Simple and cute, and perfect for SPRING!

Here's another bouquet I made for work. This one I wanted to give it a classic bride feel to it. I used four hydrangeas and tied it with a "Tiffany Blue" color.

A few days later that week I received my Martha Stewart Weddings magazine in the mail (my friend bought the subscription for me for my bday) and they had a similar white bouquet tied with the same color ribbon; I guess I'm right up with the trends!

I got a cute day by day calendar by Mary Engelbreit. I thought the drawings were too cute to throw out, so I came up with some ideas to reuse them.

One idea is to make little greeting cards. I used a pack of plain cards I bought at Michaels and used some scrap book paper as a mat for the picture. Some of the days have quotes on them too, why not just add that to the card as well! I also bought my husband Family Feud's day by day calendar for Christmas. Those would make cute cards as well. Since he didn't see this one yet, I am going to leave a message inside the card and leave it on his desk.

The other idea I had is to use them for scrapbooking. Them make cute little additions to your pages.

I thought I would share our Christmas tree for this year. Mike's Dad got the tree for us from their property. This is the first time we had a real tree in our house, and boy does it smell great! Here's my new printer I got for Christmas this year. I got the new Sony printer. I've been wanting a new updated one for awhile now that would print out multiple sizes of pictures, (4x6 and smaller) you can even print out calendars and ID pics! I'm so loving it!

So now I have my old Kodak next to my new one, with my recharging station ready to charge up my cameras, ipod and phone! Now I gotta get back into scrapbooking!!

Here's my first piece I painted at Mud About You. I think it turned out really good considering it was my first piece! The only thing I would change would be the green, it's a little too dark for the color scheme I had going on.

believe it or not....I'm working on SPRING arrangements already! To tell you the truth, I'm SO glad to be working on something fresh and new! The colors are so refreshing to see right now, no more GLITTER all over me anymore. I made this on Monday, this big guy is almost $400. Can't you just see it in a huge foyer of some fabulous house?? I just love the colors!

I've been listening to our local radio station who plays Christmas music 24/7. I just LOVE it! So for awhile now I've been hearing about the Brenda Lee concert (she sings "Rockin around the Christmas tree" - one of my favorite Christmas songs!) So a week ago today they were giving out the last tickets on air, so I decided to call in.....and I WON them!! So Mike and I went and had a GREAT time! We were by far the youngest there, but we enjoyed the concert anyways! And a great way to get in the Christmas spirit! Here's a short clip.

I went to a Christmas COOKIE exchange party over the weekend. I made peanut butter blossom cookies to pass. YUM! There was A LOT of different kinds, chocolate snowballs, almond spritz, applesauce raisin, pumpkin raisin, cranberry bread, gold 'ol cut outs, brownies, and baklava and some others. It was at my cousins house, so it was nice to see her, my Great Aunt, and of course my Mom!

mud about pottery

For awhile now I've been driving by this new plaza in Penfield on my way home from work, always wondering what the heck is "Mud About You"? My husband was on rocwiki.com, and what do you know..... there was a write up about this little shop. To my surprise it was a place where you can pick out a piece of unfinished pottery and paint it any way you want it.

So I told a couple of my friends about it and decided that we must go! On Wednesday night they had a free wine tasting while painting your pottery! My friend Becky and I went and had a GREAT time! We will be definitely going back to paint some more pieces!

I just got these cute little ornaments and I thought they could use a little "something". So I decided to glitter the whole darn thing!

The bottom one I used a PINK glitter, and the other one I used a clear glitter so you can still the original gold on the ornament. Next I'm going to change the ribbon on them both to a sheer gold. I guess they didn't turn out too bad!

Here's another light up arrangement I made. It's easy to make: take a medium sized vase, have a string of lights, and in this one I used diamond like items that really sparkle when you have lights around them. Wrap ribbon around it on all 4 sides and you get a fast and cute little arrangement that would be great for a side table or a present to give!

I've heard about tea staining tags for some time now. And a couple of years ago I bought a couple of paper tags that were stained with this yummy color and scent to it. So I decided to try it out. In one bowl I used tea, cinnamon, and other spices. In the other bowl I decided to use coffee. I thought maybe that it would give the tags a darker look. Well... I was pretty disappointed with the results. There was no big transformation with the "tea staining".

Does anyone else have a better recipe to stain tags? I would really like to try it again!

look at this crazy bunch! we all went to the World's Largest Disco in Buffalo on Saturday for the 4th year in a row! it was too much fun dressing up and dancing!
this year they had
Erik Estrada, "Ponch" from the TV show CHIP's as the celebrity guest. they also had the world's largest disco shoe. there is over 7000 people there and it always gets sold out!

I took some time to organize my studio...my rubber stamps, cards, buttons, and some other important essentials. I keep working on it to make it easier to find things and to make things faster!

I got these cute boxes, from where else?? Michaels! They are photo boxes, but they are great for storage! Used cute little Martha labels on the front of the box.

I've been wanting to go to a store in our area for the longest time, and a friend suggested we'd go, so this past Friday we had a great day with manicures, pedicures, yummy lunch and then we went to Preferred Plants on University Ave. Me loving flowers I am surprised that I haven't been there before!! They have the best and most beautiful silk flowers I've ever seen!

They had all of their Christmas merchandise out: great Christmas greens, berries, amaryllis stems. Although the stems and the arrangements were pretty pricey, they sure worth it. So if your in the area you sure should check out this store!

These CUTE plates I just bought at the Dollar Tree store on Saturday. I have been wanting a set of Christmas like plates that I could use around the holiday. And then I saw these, and thought that I would try them out for awhile! They also have bowls and mugs! I might have to go back and expand my collection.

I used a Mary Engelbreit book from Michaels for a $1 and stamped each page with everyone's names with old fashioned type writter looking stamps.

I have always loved glitter, and since Martha's craft line came out with MANY colors of glitter, I went a little crazy with them. My collection is getting bigger and bigger, and I am using glitter on just about every craft project I'm working on lately. You would think with coming home from work with pretty much glitter all over my face and clothes I would be sick of this shiny stuff.... ahh noo. I don't think that will be any time soon, hopefully with the amount I have at home!

My Grandpa just finished our anniversary present he made us. I was so excited when he told Mike and I that he was going to make a Welsh dresser, also know as a hutch. He made my Mom and Dad one years ago, and I always loved how it looked!

My cousin's gave me a set of really pretty dishes for a shower present and I didn't have a place to display them. So when my Dad brought it over last Sunday I was so excited to get my dishes out! He did such a great job making it! We love it!

Another part of my fall decorating is my Grandmother's old sewing table (there is an actual working sewing machine inside!)in the front window.I got this tiered stand at a sale and filled it with leaves, berry stems, and fake gourds. Another favorite aroma of fall is this Yankee candle, Autumn Wreath.

Next up is a spot above the sofa in the living room. The shelf is from Pottery Barn, I made the pumpkin arrangement about 3 years ago, still looking fresh! other miscellaneous items including a Snowbaby from my husband's brother in law's mother, which it is in character with ruby shoes and Toto, so cute! A pair of love birds from my parents to us both for our anniversary.

I've been making a lot of these pumpkin arrangements, at work and I just made one for Mike's Grandma for her 91st birthday!

Next up is my fall coffee table. I finally decided to use this rather large espresso shadow box I got at Pottery Barn when it was marked down from $79 to $14! It's been sitting in my scrapbook room for a year and I never have used it. I filled it with some leaves, pumpkin candles and acrorns (both from PB- they are the best!) and some Indian corn I got last year at our farm market.

I think the my little centerpiece looks pretty good on my table, might have to change it to Christmas in 2 months!

fall decorating

I thought this week I would bring you different aspects of my fall decorating each day.

Today is my telephone hutch on my main floor of our house. I change it with each season. I have misceleanous fall and halloween items on it. The clock in the middle was a present for our 1st Anniversary from my In-Laws. The pumpkin on the top of the urn I got at the Christmas Tree Store marked down to $2 for having the stem break off, works for me! Other items ion the hutch: lots of Longenberger baskets, some of the Halloween things my Mom gave me, and a REALLY cute sign I got at a store called Lindsay Lane in Pittsford.

After I went to the farm market the other day, I had some extra gourds and things I wanted to make little gift basket for my Mom. Sorry about the picture on the left, but on the basket there is little pumpkins so I thought this basket would work perfectly for my little project. I put in a warty gourd, a mini white pumpkin, a couple of apples, 2 autumn smelling votives, and bright red reading glasses!

Today I went to a sale to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Last year they brought in somewhere around $100,000! It was in the former Dick's store, so I was hoping for the place filled with good finds.

I was quite happy with what I found there. Bags of old Christmas ornaments for a $1 each! A bag filled with pink tulle and lace for a $1 and some nice fabric to make some pillows. The one on the left I am going to make fall pillows out of for the living room. That was 4 yards for $7, very vintage look to it. To make it even better everything was an extra 20%! Can't wait to next year to find more great things!

On Friday we saw our favorite comedian Brian Regan. This is our 3rd time seeing him in Rochester and once in NYC at Carolines. Every show gets better and better. The show was at the Auditorium Theatre we had great seats, so it made the show even better!

snow balls in october

I've been working on Christmas and holiday wreaths since the beginning of October. I'm hoping that I won't get sick of it anytime soon, I got a LONG way to go before the season even gets here!

I made this one out of styrofoam balls, small dowels, tacky glue, and sprayed it with the fake snow. It's nice that I pretty much have free range when it comes to designing at work, so I get to try things out that I might not make for myself. But I was pretty happy with the results and hearing comments from customers.

I am still getting great reviews from the pumpkin topiary. Just today a customer is making a bigger version with her own urns she bought! I'm glad I'm inspiring people! :)

For awhile now I have been collecting random mismatching antique plates, cups and saucers, anything really that is eye catching. At a recent sale I got these 2 matching style plates, only 25cents each. I think these 2 are my favorite in my little collection! The back it says that they were made in England. I wish I could have found more there, I wonder if the set had other colors, maybe yellow and green...?? Maybe I'll look it up online to see!

I love when holidays roll around because Pillsbury comes out with their Ready to Bake Shape Cookies. This time I got the ghosts shape instead of their cute pumpkin design for Halloween. They are really one of my favorite kind of cookie; and they are even better right out of the oven! YUM!!

My Mom shared a project with me that she finished the other day. She wanted a fall looking wreath to hang on her front door. Instead of using silk flowers, she went into her gardens and used all natural items for her creation. I LOVE it!!

She was on a roll with the wreath that she decided to make a swag for her shed door! Even cuter!

Great job Mom!!

I did some paper crafting with my Mom on Friday. I got my blue IKEA bag out and filled it with my scrapbooking materials. We worked on making some tags for Halloween and Christmas (yes I know Christmas already! I have been making Christmas wreaths all week at work!). I also made some paper frames to use for my scrapbooking. We have been coming up with ideas for future projects and endeavors, so stay tuned soon for those!!

I stopped by our local farm market to pick up some apples and cider. While I was there I bought some ity bity pumpkins and some gourds. I also took some pictures, that I think turned out pretty cool, one I'm gonna use for my Thanksgiving cards to send out to family and friends!

Tonight I went to a at home party for The Body Shop over my cousin Beth's house. When I got the invitation in the mail I was surprised to see that they have home parties! I haven't bought anything from them in years and years, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to find out what they offer and to see my cousins that I haven't seen since the wedding!

The party started off with a hand treatment and then while the consultant talked about the products we soaked our feet and rubbed them with body polish and lotion! Boy did it feel good on my tired feet from standing all day!!

I decided to purchase White Musk perfume, a purse (most of the proceeds goes to charities) and a pomegranate set with lotion, shower gel and body polish. I can't wait until I get them!

FYI- Mary Kay does similar parties where you pamper yourself through a party; if anyone is interested... let me know!! ;)

While at a book sale I found this very vintage book from Better Homes and Gardens about Floral Design! It's from 1954. I thought it would be cool adding it to my design collection of books. All the pictures inside are all color and to say about the designs....they are definitely different! Maybe it will inspire some designs I create at Michael's! It only cost me 50 cents!

Last night we went over a friends house, and the guys decided to make garbage plates. If your from Rochester you probably know all about these interesting named "plates". If you don't know, check out wikipedia's site. So Mike's job was to make the hot sauce. I was out with my family so he made it ALL by himself! And boy did he do a GREAT JOB!

Awhile ago we did a search online to find a recipe. Just do a search on google!!

Happy 1st day of Fall everyone! It is a beautiful fall day here in Rochester! I LOVE this time of year, with all the beautiful colors and aromas! I just bought these Chinese lanterns to decorate my family room. Pictures of fall decorating coming soon!

Our recent visit to Canada we went to IKEA, and found some good buys. One thing I was pretty excited about was a glass board to hang on the wall. When reading some of my favorite blogs, I've seen their take on a 'inspiration board", and I've been wanting to make my own. The glass board was PERFECT for it! It will always be a work in progress, but here's my start on my own inspiration board.
